Meet Wendy, Don and the kids!

We’re two farm kids who met at the University of Guelph while studying horticulture. Don grew up on a fruit farm, and Wendy was raised on a dairy farm — both of us raised with big gardens, food preservation, and a deep respect for homegrown food.

In 2002, we bought our farm — once a depleted tobacco field — and planted our first pumpkins and gourds, selling them off a wagon at the road. Over the years, we added:

  • Blueberries (5 acres, planted 2004, 2014) – PYO began in 2012
  • Elderberries (Started with 1 acre, planted 2005) – inspired by family traditions
  • Raspberries (0.25 acre, planted 2016) – added as a complementary crop
  • Apples (400 trees, planted in 2022) - our inaugural harvest is 2025.

We’ve always aimed to raise our kids with strong values: hard work, resilience, and respect for the land.

To share our farm with others, we introduced:

  • Picnic Experience (2019) – farm tours + berry tasting
  • Farmers Markets (2020–present) – Covent Garden, Woodstock, Tillsonburg
  • Marian’s Country Tea (2023) – honouring my mom’s hospitality with her recipes and a custom summer tea blend

Our philosophy is to grow nutritious and delicious fruit for our family and yours.

5 Guiding Principals

QUALITY

To provide our customers with fresh, sweet and delicious fruit.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

We love to see our customers return year after year with a smile on their face.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

A balance of Agriculture Best Practices combined with minimizing our footprint on nature

SAFETY

Your personal safety, employee safety and food safety are top priority.

FAMILY VALUE

Farming families who work together stay together!

The 3 Pillars of Sustainability

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABLITY

Efficient Water Use

  • Blueberries need 1 inch of water per week during active growth.
  • We use drip irrigation to deliver water directly to the shallow root zone — reducing evaporation, drift, and waste.
  • In 2022, we doubled our drip tape to increase water delivery speed.
  • We're exploring pulsation systems to further improve water efficiency and plant growth.
  • Mulching for Moisture Retention
  • We apply mulch to all fruit crops to reduce moisture loss, build soil organic matter, and cut down on irrigation needs during dry spells.
  • Pollinator Habitat Conservation
  • Unlike many farms, we’ve preserved natural fence rows, scrub brush, and forest canopy to support pollinator populations.
  • Native pollinators like bumble bees, honey bees, Mason bees, wasps, and others thrive here.
  • Sod between blueberry rows provides additional habitat for ground-dwelling pollinators.

HUMANITY & SUSTAINABILITY

Berry Therapy: Nature-Based Calm

  • We offer Pick-Your-Own (PYO) and Picnic Experiences to help guests slow down, connect with nature, and enjoy the calming effects of repetitive tasks like berry picking.
  • Simple, hands-on tasks (e.g. picking, weeding) help quiet anxious thoughts and promote a peaceful state of mind — we call it "berry therapy."

Mindfulness on the Farm

  • Meditation signs throughout the berry patch guide peaceful reflection.
  • We host Monday Meditation in the Patch with YogAmanda to support mental well-being through movement and mindfulness.

COMMUNITY

Supporting Local

  • We hire local staff and source all ingredients and supplies from nearby businesses.
  • We regularly collaborate with local vendors to co-host events and cross-promote one another.

Pick a Pint for Charity (est. 2017)

  • Customers are invited to pick an extra pint of berries during Berry Days and Picnic Experiences.
  • Berrylicious donates the berries; guests donate their time.
  • All berries are frozen and donated to Operation Sharing in Woodstock to support food-insecure community members.

Ongoing Volunteering

  • In the off-season, Wendy volunteers half a day per week at Operation Sharing, helping with meal prep, service, and clean-up in their soup kitchen.
  • This kitchen provides homemade meals three times per week for those in need — a heartfelt act of both giving and receiving.
